Inner City Relief

Through the Indigenous Support Program, Be a Mercy Foundation (BMF) in conjunction with its parent organization Islamic Chaplaincy helps to maintain inner city Muslim communities.

Be a Mercy Foundation (BMF) is striving hard to help Muslims living in the inner cities by providing social workers for counseling, educational seminars, job/ trade workshops, distribution of zakat and more, in hopes to take them to the next level. The idea behind such a program, is to take a deprived and unprivileged community from nothing to something. In addition to the above, one of the needed projects BMF has embarked on is the “Indigenous Imam Support Program.” Through this program, BMF intends to empower community leaders who are actively working as Imams/Muslim activists in a community that others desire not to take up residence or work in, such as Camden NJ for example. These individuals that BMF will be supporting, work at masaajid that are incapable of paying them a salary. As a result, these imams have other jobs either pumping gas, driving taxi at night, etc. in order to survive. These jobs require an excessive number of hours in order to earn a decent salary. In addition, these jobs truthfully are degrading and counterproductive for someone in a communal position such as an Imam.

Through this program, Be a Mercy Foundation (BMF) intends to support these Imams by covering their living expenses such as housing, transportation, gas, groceries, medical insurance, and other exceptional circumstantial expenses. Our hope is to empower, uphold and revive the dignity & integrity of Imams who serve in communities that are at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, so they are no longer in need of working odd hours doing odd jobs. We envision an outcome that in effect will allow these Imams to focus their efforts entirely on the needs of their community and produce positive results.
